Writing Workshops

A full-time freelance journalist since 1986, Nancy Grant draws on her wide range of experience to offer practical help to other non-fiction writers, from aspiring beginners to working writers who want to move their careers to the next level.

Grant says, "I've always enjoyed the splendid possibilities the English language offers - but words alone cannot do the job. A successful freelancer must also be curious, tenacious, attentive to details, dedicated to meeting deadlines, and supremely well-organized."

Grant also presents workshops for business people who need
to improve their communication skills.

"On Assignment - the Art and Craft of Writing in the Information Age"
An over-the-shoulder look at the working life of a non-fiction writer
Keynote speech/workshop presentation (30 to 60 minutes)

This inside look at the realities of finding quotable sources, tracking down facts, and conveying ideas in an engaging style gives audiences and workshop participants fresh insights into the world of journalism in the 21st century.

In this fascinating presentation, Grant describes the unique mix of research tools and technologies she uses to move from the first conversation with an editor to the published piece.

Whether the words will be published on the internet, in a magazine, or as a full-length book, writing non-fiction means sticking to the facts. Yet this work also requires a creative mind.

"Better Business Writing - Plan for Success and Enjoy the Rewards"
A practical session for business men and women, loaded with real-life examples and guidelines that focus on results

Grant says, "Words are just as important as numbers in the business world. Presenting ideas concisely is a vital part of the decision-making process. Being able to write quickly and clearly is a valuable skill ---and it's much easier when you have a plan."

This workshop includes writing strategies that will save time and improve the content of formal letters, e-mails, websites, PowerPoint slide shows, and printed presentations.
