Energy Speeches & Presentations

Nancy Grant works carefully with her clients to customize presentations that will
meet - and exceed - the expectations of the audience. Question and answer sessions, book signings, and other activities may be added to any program. In addition to keynote speeches, Grant is also available to serve as a panelist or breakout session leader.

Grant speaks at corporate events and trade association gatherings, energy conferences, colleges, and libraries.

Nancy Grant's speeches and presentations about today's most newsworthy energy topics are in plain everyday language. She explains technological breakthroughs in clear, concise terms, and examines the potential for practical applications.

Grant says, "We want one-size-fits-all energy magic and we want it right now - but solving today's complex problems will take plain old-fashioned hard work over many years. Dedicated men and women with solid backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, and math working in the green jobs of today and the future will be the unsung heroes."

Grant brings these behind-the-scenes workers' successes to light, and provides audiences with fresh insights into how day-to-day science and technology really works. Grant does not advocate a particular political party or interest group's plan for action.

Grant says, "The results of today's energy policy debates will affect our lives for decades. We need well-informed citizens, plus active and thoughtful civic engagement from people in all walks of life and all regions to solve our energy problems. Ordinary citizens can -- and must -- get involved in energy discussions if we are to succeed."

"Seven Energy Ideas for Today"
Keynote speech (30 to 40 minutes)

This presentation discusses the seven ways in which technology could help solve America's energy problems. Grant provides real-life examples from various states of the progress made to date --- and explores how researchers and engineers are moving forward in the search for practical solutions.

Grant also discusses the proposals in Governor Beshear's recently published energy plan, "Intelligent Choices for Kentucky's Energy Future," as an example of how individual states are dealing with today's energy issues.

"Green Energy Reality Check"
Where do we really want to go, and how will we get there?
Keynote speech (25 to 45 minutes)

This popular and timely speech explores the facts and hidden consequences behind the current week's energy headlines. In her typical friendly, conversational style, Grant explores the conflicting ideas and proposals being put forward to solve today's energy problems.  Based on her ongoing research and reporting on technological innovations, Grant offers fascinating details to help listeners understand the issues.

Grant says, "Today's widespread interest in sustainable practices, combined with concerns over greenhouse gas emissions, means that consumers, investors, and taxpayers must evaluate an array of choices. Each new green energy proposal would have far-reaching effects on our daily lives and our nation's infrastructure, as well as our wallets. We have a lot of difficult decisions to make."

Grant explores the informal opportunities to influence energy policy within neighborhoods and communities, then discusses the different ways that local, state and federal governments seek to create workable green policies.

"Greening your business: A practical guide to improving
energy efficiency and sustainability"

Keynote presentation (30 to 40 minutes) or breakout session
for workshops and panel discussions

In today's competitive marketplace, the road to a greener image has quite a few potholes. Many business owners, from simple sole proprietorships to multi-location, multi-employee firms, say they want to change their energy use patterns and operate in more sustainable ways. But how do you begin? Where do you find the money for changes? How can you spot an energy scam artist? How do you avoid the "greenwashing" label?

In this presentation, Grant offers a step-by-step guide to greening your business, based on sound business principles and analysis, with examples from the real world. Grant explains how energy service companies and energy savings performance contracts work, and includes checklists for evaluating proposals from independent vendors. She also discusses the role that effective internal and external communications must play throughout the greening process.

Grant says, "Whether you want your company to start small with recycled office supplies, or you need to build a new energy efficient headquarters building, there are many opportunities to implement sensible energy saving actions and procedures in your business. This talk will help you make reasonable choices."

Nancy Grant also gives speeches and workshops about the business of writing; details about these activities are included on the Writing Workshops page of this website.
